Ignition Parts

Ignition Coils

Function: Many things have changed over the years in the modern electronic ignition system, no more so than the ignition coil itself. The coil has grown from a simple high resistance oil filled/cooled ignition coil; to epoxy filled modular DFI and transformer style ignition coils. Modern ignition coils can create voltages of 50,000 volts or more as required by today's "lean burn" high performance engines.

Availability: Early oil filled, specific European, Australian and Asian applications all catered for, including direct fire (DFI) ignition coils from Bosch, AC Delco, Diamond, Denso and JECS.

Ignition/DFI Modules

Function: The control of high-energy ignition coils requires a highly efficient current/power management unit. Hybrid ignition modules can control ignition coil current, dwell value and primary induced voltage. Due to the physical location and current values involved, high build quality and performance are critical factors in the design of ignition modules.

Ignition modules take many different forms, from small hybrid modules carrying up to 10 amps, to large aluminium control boxes used mainly in older style ignition systems. Some units may control from one to six high-energy ignition coils all at once; these are often referred to as power transistor units or DFI (Direct Fire Ignition) modules.

Availability: Quality is essential with high-energy ignition modules, therefore Automotive Service Solutions only stocks O.E. ignition modules from Bosch, AC Delco and Mitsubishi. Our extensive range covers hundreds of vehicle applications. Older style ignition units or "Trigger Boxes" may even be repairable by Automotive Service Solutions, check with you nearest branch for further details.

Inductive/Crank Angle Sensors

Function: Modern engine management systems require accurate information about crankshaft speed and exact position. Sophisticated sensors can generate information as accurate as one degree of crankshaft movement. Various types of sensors are used from inductive style sensors as used in Bosch Motronic systems, to hall effect and optical style sensors used in Japanese and American designed management systems.

Availability: New and changeover /reconditioned units are available from Automotive Service Solutions. All changeover units are remanufactured by Automotive Service Solutions in-house under stringent quality control and are returned to O.E. specification or better. A wide range of Hall Effect, Inductive and Optical sensors are available from manufacturers including Bosch, AC Delco, Mitsubishi and Hitachi.
